\n\tIt is difficult to translate the
\n\tNational Anthem of Bengal into verse in another language owing to its unique
\n\tunion of sweetness, simple directness and high poetic force. All attempts in
\n\tthis direction have been failures. In order, therefore, to bring the reader
\n\tunacquainted with Bengali nearer to the exact force of the original, I give
\n\tthe transla\u00adtion in prose line by line. <\/span><\/p>\n

Her nights
\n\trejoicing in the glory of the moonlight,<\/span><\/p>\n

her lands
\n\tclothed beautifully with her trees in flowering bloom,<\/span><\/p>\n

sweet of

the Mother,
\n\tgiver of boons, giver of bliss!<\/span><\/p>\n

Terrible with
\n\tthe clamorous shout of seventy million throats, <\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tsharpness of swords raised in twice seventy million hands, <\/span><\/p>\n

Who sayeth to

Holder of
\n\tmultitudinous strength,<\/span><\/p>\n
