He thought of<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;certain feminine traits in him that could be explained thus.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;I would also like to know if there is in the psychic being<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;itself something like sex?<\/i><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><font size=\"2\">Page 360<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><P><\/p>\n<p><i>(Answer:)<\/i> Not sex exactly, but what might be called the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;masculine<br \/>\n  and feminine principle. It is a difficult question<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;[whether sex is altered in rebirth]. There are certain lines<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;the reincarnation follows and so far as my experience<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;goes and general experience goes, one follows usually a<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;single line. But the alteration of sex cannot be declared<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;impossible. There may be some who do alternate. The<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;presence of feminine traits in a male does not necessar<\/p>\n<p>ily indicate a past feminine birth &#8211; they may come in the<\/p>\n<p>general play of forces and their formations. There are<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;besides qualities common to both sexes. Also a fragment<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;of the psychological personality may have been associated<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;with a birth not ones own. One can say of a certain per<\/p>\n<p>son of the past, &quot;that was not myself, but a fragment of my<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;psychological personality was present in him.&quot; Rebirth is <\/p>\n<p>a complex affair and not so simple in its mechanism as in<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;the popular idea.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P align=\"right\"><i>11 January 1936<\/i><P align=\"right\"><i>&nbsp;<\/i>Letters on Yoga,<i> 22.447-448<\/i><br \/>\n<P>He says it&#8217;s &quot;fragments&quot;?<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes, that there may be fragments.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>That&#8217;s my experience.
