{"id":6471,"date":"2013-07-13T02:07:54","date_gmt":"2013-07-13T02:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=6471"},"modified":"2013-07-13T02:07:54","modified_gmt":"2013-07-13T02:07:54","slug":"53-july-18-1970-vol-11-volume-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worksofthemotherandsriaurobindo.org\/index.php\/02-works-of-the-mother\/03-agenda\/11-volume-11\/53-july-18-1970-vol-11-volume-11","title":{"rendered":"-53_July 18_1970.htm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><H3>July 18, 1970<\/H3><br \/>\n<P align=\"center\"><i>(Mother begins with the translation of two letters of<\/i><P align=\"center\"><i>&nbsp;Sri Aurobindo for the next issue of the Bulletin.)<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is much easier for the Sadhak [disciple] by<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;faith in the Mother to get free from illness than<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;for the Mother to keep free &#8211; because the Mother<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;by the very nature of her work had to identify<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;herself with the Sadhaks, to support all their<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;difficulties, to receive into herself all the poison<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;in their nature &#8230;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P>Very kind of them! <i>(Mother laughs)<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>&quot;&#8230;<\/i> to take up besides all the difficulties of the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;universal earth-Nature, including the possibility<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;of death and disease in order to fight them out. <\/p>\n<p>If she had not done that, not a single Sadhak<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;would have been able to practise this Yoga&#8230;.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P align=\"right\"><i>(Mother nods her head)<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;&#8230; The Divine has to put on humanity &#8230; <\/p>\n<p><P>&quot;Put on humanity&#8230;.&quot; This is fine!<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;&#8230; in order that the human being may rise to the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Divine.<br \/>\n  It is a simple truth &#8230;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P align=\"right\"><i>(Mother laughs)<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;&#8230; but nobody in the Ashram seems able to<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;understand<br \/>\n  that the Divine can do that and yet<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;remain different from them &#8211; can still remain the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Divine.&quot;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P align=\"right\"><i>8 May 1933 <\/i>The Mother,<i> 25.317<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>There&#8217;s another text, which starts with a question:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P><\/p>\n<p><i>&quot;People in the Ashram believe that their difficulties  <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>and illnesses are taken by the Mother on herself<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;and therefore she has sometimes to suffer. But at<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;that rate there would be too much onrush of these<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;things on her from many Sadhaks. An idea comes<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;to me of taking upon myself some of these difficul<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>ties and illnesses so that I can also suffer with her<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;pleasantly?&quot;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P><i>(Mother laughs a lot)<\/i> Pleasantly!&#8230; With a question mark.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Sri Aurobindo answers:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;Pleasantly? It would be anything but pleasant<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;either for you or for us. <br \/>&quot;It is rather a crude statement of a fact. The<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Mother in order to do her work had to take all<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;the Sadhaks inside her personal being and con<\/p>\n<p>sciousness; thus personally (not merely imper<\/p>\n<p>sonally) taken inside, all the disturbances and<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;difficulties in them including illnesses could<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;throw themselves upon her in a way that could<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;not have happened if she had not renounced the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;self-protection of separateness. Not only illnesses <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><font size=\"2\">Page 263<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>of others could translate themselves into attacks <\/p>\n<p>on her body &#8211; these she could generally throw off<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;as soon as she knew from what quarter and why<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;it came &#8211; but their inner difficulties, revolts, <\/p>\n<p>outbursts of anger and hatred against her could<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;have the same and a worse effect&#8230;.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P>That&#8217;s still true&#8230;. With some people, as soon as they come, I&#8217;ll suddenly feel a disorder, or I&#8217;ll start coughing, or &#8230; Then when I look, I see why. When I see why, I can keep the thing at a distance. It&#8217;s curious.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;&#8230; That was the only danger for her (because<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;inner<br \/>\n  difficulties are easily surmountable) &#8230;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P>That&#8217;s so true! For that, a smile is enough.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p>&quot;&#8230; but matter and the body are the weak point or<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;crucial point of our Yoga, since this province has<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;never been conquered by the spiritual Power, the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;old Yogas having either left it alone or used on<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;it only a detail mental and vital force, not the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;general spiritual force. It was the reason why<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;after a serious illness caused by a terribly bad<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;state of the Ashram atmosphere &#8230;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P align=\"right\"><i>(Mother laughs)<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>&quot;&#8230;<\/i> I had to insist on her partial retirement so as<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;to minimise the most concrete part of the pres<\/p>\n<p>sure upon her. Naturally, the full conquest of the<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;physical would revolutionise matters, but as yet<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;it is the struggle.&quot;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P align=\"right\"><i>31 March 1934<\/i><P align=\"right\"><i>&nbsp;<\/i>The Mother,<i> 25.317<\/i><br \/>\n<P>How what he says remains true &#8211; that&#8217;s first rate!<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i> Is the &quot;revolution&quot; still far away, or close? <\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>Alas! <i>(Mother laughs)<\/i><br \/>\n<P align=\"center\">***<br \/>\n<P align=\"center\"><font size=\"2\">Page 264<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><P><\/p>\n<p><i>Soon afterwards<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>They told me you&#8217;re seeing &#8230; <i>(Mother tries to recall a name) <\/i>Someone who sees you often, whom I don&#8217;t know.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>I see lots of them!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>So it seems!&#8230; How come?<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>I wonder what I should do, in fact.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>When do you see them?<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>They&#8217;ve found the way: I&#8217;ll go out and &#8230;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P><i>(Mother laughs a lot)<\/i> That&#8217;s right! So you go out of your home &#8230;<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>I go out in the evening around 5:30 for a bit of fresh air.<br \/>\n  First I<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;go to the Samadhi &#8211; they catch me at the Samadhi and go<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;around with me; then they come up to the beach and stay with<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;me until I come home&#8230;. So I see all kinds. I see lots of them.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P>Are some interesting?<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes. I let them, because I feel it&#8217;s useful. [[Satprem will abundantly carry on with this until 1971. Then he will abruptly close his door when people will start referring to him as a guru. ]] <\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>Oh, useful, certainly, but you shouldn&#8217;t tire yourself. Because, you know, they will &#8230; <i>(Mother makes a gesture of swallowing).<\/i><br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes, it&#8217;s tiring, that&#8217;s true.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>They find it quite natural to absorb you completely.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Oh, its tiring.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>It&#8217;s the same thing for me with people who come and see me&#8230;. I had to start putting up a fight because otherwise I used to say yes, yes, yes&#8230;. [[Mother has begun examining the list of visitors, instead of accepting everything and everyone. ]]  They stay on till 1:00 P.M., and then &#8230; That can&#8217;t be.<br \/>\n<P align=\"center\"><font size=\"2\">Page 265<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><P>Be careful.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>I don&#8217;t know what I should do.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>If it&#8217;s only while you&#8217;re outside, it&#8217;s all right.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>At home, I&#8217;m rather fierce and I close my door.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>That&#8217;s what I meant: don&#8217;t let them in.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Oh, a few still manage to slip in.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P>No, no, don&#8217;t let them in. He seems to<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;understand from within, to go very fast.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P>Yes, that must be him.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>I&#8217;ll give you one example: he was with Z and asked Z how the<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;syllable<br \/>\n  OM should be pronounced (he didn&#8217;t know). Z told him. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Then he repeated just that word, and he says that it suddenly<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;became absolutely awesome, as if there were hundreds of ampli<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>fiers and all of Matter everywhere said OM.<\/i><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><font size=\"2\">Page 266<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><P>Oh, he&#8217;s sensitive. Yes, that&#8217;s fine.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes, he is interesting&#8230;. So he asks me lots of questions<br \/>\n  because<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;suddenly he&#8217;s just discovering all this.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><P>That&#8217;s interesting.<br \/>\n<P><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes, its useful and interesting. &#8230;It will be good when you<br \/>\n  see<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&nbsp;him. Not easy!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><P><i>(Mother laughs)<\/i> The flowers are quite bold!<br \/>\n<P><i>(Mother takes another flower)<\/i> This is a &quot;Psychological Perfection&quot;&#8230;. It&#8217;s to find that [the power of truth in the subconscient].<br \/>\n<P>We&#8217;re preparing a book about flowers. There will be color photos of flowers, their significance, and a comment by me! They make me write a comment on every flower&#8230;. So I&#8217;m having fun!
