These were<br \/>\nthe worlds he made; <i>ambhah<\/i><\/span><i><span lang=\"VI\">&#803;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/>\nof the ethereal waters, <i>mar&#299;c&#299;h,<\/i> of light, <i>mara,<\/i> of death and<br \/>\nmortal things, <i>&#257;pah,<\/i> of the lower waters. Yea, the<br \/>\nSpirit brooded over Him and of Him thus brooded over the mouth broke forth, as<br \/>\nwhen an egg is hatched and breaks; from the mouth broke Speech and of Speech<br \/>\nfire was born. The nostrils broke forth and from the nostrils Breath and of<br \/>\nBreath air was born. The eyes broke forth and from the eyes Sight and of Sight<br \/>\nthe Sun was born. The ears broke forth and from the ears Hearing and of Hearing<br \/>\nthe regions were born. The skin broke forth and from the skin hairs and from the<br \/>\nhairs herbs of healing and all trees and plants were born. The heart broke forth<br \/>\nand from the heart Mind and of Mind the moon was born. The navel broke forth and<br \/>\nfrom the navel <i>ap&#257;na<\/i> and of <i>ap&#257;na<\/i> Death was born. These were<br \/>\nthe Gods that He created; they fell into this great Ocean, and Hunger and Thirst<br \/>\nleaped upon them. Fire became<br \/>\nSpeech and entered into the mouth; Air became Breath and entered into the<br \/>\nnostrils; the Sun became Sight and entered into the eyes; the Quarters became<br \/>\nHearing and entered into the ears; Herbs of healing and the plants and trees<br \/>\nbecame Hairs and entered into the skin; the Moon became Mind and entered into<br \/>\nthe heart; Death became <i>ap&#257;na,<\/i> the lower breathing and entered into the<br \/>\nnavel; the Waters became Seed and entered into the organ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%\">\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-12_The Upanishad_Volume-12\/_images\/aiteriya-ch-1-sec-2-5.jpg\" width=\"344\" height=\"65\"><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">5. The Spirit<br \/>\nbrooded in might upon the waters and from the waters brooded mightily over. Form<br \/>\nwas born. By speech He would have seized it, but he<br \/>\ncould not seize it by speech. In the male<br \/>\nfirst the unborn child becomes. This which is seed is the force and heat of him<br \/>\nthat from all parts of the creature draws together for becoming; therefore he<br \/>\nbears himself in himself, and when he casts it into the woman, &#8217;tis himself he<br \/>\nbegets. It becomes<br \/>\none self with the woman, therefore it does her no hurt and she cherishes this<br \/>\nself of her husband that has got into her womb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-12_The Upanishad_Volume-12\/_images\/aiteriya-ch-2-3.jpg\" width=\"352\" height=\"84\"><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">3. She the<br \/>\ncherisher must be cherished. So the woman bears the unborn child and the man<br \/>\ncherishes the boy even from the beginning ere it is born. And whereas he<br \/>\ncherishes the boy ere it is born, &#8217;tis verily himself that he cherishes for the<br \/>\ncontinuance of these worlds and their peoples; for &#8217;tis even thus the thread of<br \/>\nthese worlds spins on unbroken. Now this his other self when it has done the works it came to do<br \/>\nand has reached its age, lo! it goes hence, and even as it departs, it is born<br \/>\nagain. This which<br \/>\nis the heart, is mind also. For Wisdom is the eye of the<br \/>\nworld. Wisdom is the sure foundation.
