\nAslaug, the tyrant, the usurper’s wife,
\nWho by her brother’s murder is secured

\nI have given myself, my brother’s throne and life,
\nMy pride, ambition, hope, and grasp, and keep

\nI dance before him, \u2014 royal Olaf’s child
\nBecomes the upstart Eric’s dancing-girl!
\nWhat happens else tonight? One preys upon
\nAslaug of Norway! <\/b> O, I thank thee, heaven,
\nThat thou restores! me to sanity.
\nIt was his fraudulent and furious siege;<\/font>

\nAnd something in me proved a traitor. Fraud ?
\nO beauty of the godlike brilliant eyes!
\nO face expressing heaven’s supremacy!
\nNo, I will put it down, I put it down.
\nHelp me, you gods, help me against my heart. .
\nI will strike suddenly, I will not wait.
\n‘Tis a deceit, his majesty and might,
\nHis dreadful beauty, his resistless brain.
\nIt will be very difficult to strike!
\nBut I will strike. Swegn strikes, and Norway strikes,
\nMy honour strikes, the gods, and all his life
