For thou comest&nbsp; over every thought and thou carriest on its<br \/>\nway the thinking mind of the orderer of the work.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>\n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp193b.gif\" width=\"266\" height=\"43\"><br \/>\n<\/span>2.<span>SAY<br \/>\nANA: The intelligent offering priest, the enrapturing Agni of great knowledge is<br \/>\nsettled among the peoples (the priests) in (for) the sacrifices; he resorts<br \/>\nupward to his lustre like the sun; like a pillar he supports his smoke above the<br \/>\nheaven.<\/p>\n<p>SRI AUROBINDO: The offering priest inspired of mind has taken his seat in the<br \/>\npeoples, Agni, the rapturous, the wise thinker in the gettings of knowledge; he<br \/>\nhas risen high into light like the all-creating sun; like a pillar he holds up<br \/>\nhis smoke against the heavens.<br \/>\n(The joy, wisdom, knowledge of Agni in men&#8217;s gettings of<\/span> knowledge, he is<br \/>\na high creator of knowledge like the sun; he (Agni or the Adhvaryu) becomes or goes (round<br \/>\nfrom left) to right, widening the sacrifice; and also the new- born post becomes<br \/>\nhigh; approaching, very bright, the axe (?) goes to the animals (or the post<br \/>\nexcellent etc. and well placed goes to the animals).<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"><span>SRI<br \/>\nAUROBINDO: The clear-shining flame of him is reined and swift and opulent (or,<br \/>\ndelightful), he on his right hand circling widens the extension of the gods;<br \/>\nhigh like a post of sacrifice, new-born, moving, firm on his base and bright he<br \/>\nbrings the (seeing) herds.<\/p>\n<p>  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp194a.gif\" width=\"250\" height=\"33\"><\/span><br \/>\n  <span> <\/p>\n<p><\/span>4. * SRI AUROBINDO: The altar spread, the fire<br \/>\nkindled, the leader of sacrifice pleasing the gods stands high; the offering<br \/>\npriest ancient, greatening (the offering), goes like a herdsman thrice round<br \/>\n(the cattle).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"><span><br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; his lustres run forded (or<br \/>\nlike horses); all beings fear when he blazes.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"><span><br \/>\n<\/span><span>SRI AUROBINDO: He encompasses<br \/>\nwith himself in his measured motion, the Flame, the offering priest, rapturous,<br \/>\nhoney-worded, master of truth; his lustres run like horses; all the worlds are<br \/>\nin awe when he blazes forth.<\/p>\n<p>  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp194c.gif\" width=\"250\" height=\"30\"><br \/>\n  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>*&nbsp; Sayana&#8217;s interpretation not<br \/>\nfound in the MS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\"><font size=\"2\">Page-194<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"><span>6.<\/span><span>SAYANA:<br \/>\nO fair-flaming Agni, the delightful, praisable (or auspicious) image of thee<br \/>\nterrible, pervading on every side, is full-seen, because they (the nights) do<br \/>\nnot stop thee with darkness nor the destroyers put (create) sin in thy body.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"><span><br \/>\nSRI AUROBINDO: O Thou Flame of great force (or, fire of force), though thou art<br \/>\nterrible as thou goest abroad over the regions, happy and beautiful is the<br \/>\nvision of thee; and in whose sending the father and mother (heaven and earth) do not<br \/>\nquickly prevail, the purifier like a well-pleased friend shines among the<br \/>\npeoples of Manu.<\/p>\n<p>SRI AUROBINDO: The gettings of this begetter of things (or, the light of this<br \/>\nbegetter and getter of things) cannot be shut in, nor the Father and Mother when<br \/>\nhe urges. Then shines the purifying flame as the friend, well-based, in the<br \/>\nhuman peoples.<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp195b.gif\" width=\"250\" height=\"32\"><br \/>\n  <br \/>\n<\/span><span>8.<\/span><span>SAY<br \/>\nANA: Whom the ten sisters coming together (the fingers), bore, Agni, among the<br \/>\npeoples of Manu, like women, waker at dawn, the eater (of offerings), bright,<br \/>\nfair-faced, like a sharp axe (killing the Rakshasas).<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"justify\"><span><br \/>\n<\/span>SRI AUROBINDO: Twice five sisters who dwell together<span><br \/>\n<\/span><span>gave birth to this flame in the<br \/>\nhuman peoples; they like women (?) gave birth to the brighter eater who awakes<br \/>\nwith dawn, whose face is beautiful; he is like a keen axe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"margin: 0;line-height:150%\"><font size=\"2\">Page-195<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>\n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp196a.gif\" width=\"250\" height=\"34\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span>9.<\/span><span>SAYANA<br \/>\n: These horses of thine, Agni, streaming water, red, straight-moving,<br \/>\nwell-going, shining young (or, rainers well-formed and beautiful) are called to<br \/>\nthe sacrifice.<br \/>\n<\/span><span><br \/>\n<\/span><span>SRI AUROBINDO: These bright<br \/>\nsteeds of thine, O Flame, who stream clear brightness (ghrita), and are red and<br \/>\nstraight and fair of motion, shining potent stallions, are called in their power<br \/>\nto the extending of the godheads.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp196b.gif\" width=\"250\" height=\"32\"><span><br \/>\n  <br \/>\n<\/span>10. SAYANA: Those rays of thine, overcoming, moving, bright, to be served, go<br \/>\nlike horses to their goal; they are great- sounding like the Maruts host.<\/p>\n<p><span>SRI AUROBINDO: Those illuminings of<br \/>\nthee, O Flame, they overpower, they travel, they are keen in brightness, they<br \/>\nare active, they move like eagles to the goal, they are many-voiced like the<br \/>\nhost of the Life-gods.<\/span><span><\/p>\n<p>  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-01 Works of Sri Aurobindo\/-01_SABCL\/-27_Supplement_Volume-27\/_images\/supp196c.gif\" width=\"250\" height=\"33\"><br \/>\n  <\/span><span><br \/>\n<\/span><span>11.SAYANA<br \/>\n: O thou who art being kindled, for thee the praise is made; one (the Rota)<br \/>\nspeaks the praise, one (the Yajamana) sacrifices; give (wealth). Men desiring<br \/>\n(wealth) <\/span><span>&#8211;<\/span> <span>serve<br \/>\nworshipping Agni, the caller of the gods speakable <\/span><span>(praisable)<br \/>\nof man.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;margin: 0;line-height:150%\"><span>SRI AUROBINDO: The sow-thought<br \/>\nis formed, O kindling Flame, for thee; for thee one speaks the word and<br \/>\nsacrifices; ordain.
