\nTHE FIRST HYMN TO AGNI <\/b><\/font> <\/p>\n

\nA HYMN OF THE MORNING SACRIFICE<\/b><\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n[The Rishi hymns the awakening of Agni the Divine Force
\nto conscious action in the coming of the Dawn. Agni rises towards the luminous Paradise, his goal, feeding on the works of
\nthe Discernment which distributes the gifts and activities of the
\nsacrifice, becomes a pure energy leading our days and ascends
\nto the Vastness and the Truth. By the Truth he fashions anew
\nour two firmaments, the physical and mental consciousness.
\nThis is the golden Affirmation of him in our heavens.]<\/font>
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

  1. \n

    \n\tStrength is awake by kindling of the peoples and he fronts
    \nthe Dawn that comes to him as the Cow that fosters; like mightinesses that rush upward to their expanding his lustres
    \nadvancing mount towards the heavenly level<\/font><\/li>\n

  2. \n

    \n\tThe Priest of our oblation has awakened for sacrifice to the
    \ngods; with right mentality in him Strength stands up exalted
    \nin our mornings; he is entirely kindled, red-flushing the mass
    \nof him is seen; a great godhead has been delivered out of the
    \ndarkness.<\/font><\/li>\n

  3. \n

    \n\tWhen he has uncoiled the long cord of his hosts. Strength
    \nshines pure by the pure herd of the radiances.<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> For the
    \ngoddess who discerns grows in plenitude and is yoked to her
    \nworks; he exalted, she extended supine, he feeds on her with
    \nhis flames of the offering.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n

  4. \n

    \n\tThe minds of men who grow in the godhead move entirely
    \ntowards the flame of Will even as all their seeings converge
    \nin the Sun that illumines.<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> When two Dawns<\/font>\u00b3<\/font> of opposite<\/font>
    \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\u00b9The Cows of the Dawn. Dakshina the goddess of divine discernment, is here a form
    \nof the Dawn herself. <\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\u00b2That is to say, instead of the groping thoughts of other men, their mentality tends to
    \nconvert itself into a luminous flame of Will that is knowledge and all their thoughts become a
    \nblaze of direct vision, the rays of the Sun of Truth. <\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\u00b3Day and Night, \u2014 the latter the state of Ignorance that belongs to our material Nature,
    \n<\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

    \nforms are delivered of him, he is born as the White Steed in
    \nfront of the days.<\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

    1. \n

      \n\tYea, he is born victorious in the front of the days, a ruddy
      \nworker established in the established delights of things;<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font>upholding in house after house the seven ecstasies\u00b9 Strength
      \nhas taken his seat as the Priest of the offering mighty for
      \nsacrifice.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n

    2. \n

      \n\tStrength has taken his seat as the
      \n\tPriest of the offering mighty for sacrifice in the lap of the Mother and in
      \n\tthat rapturous other world,\u00b2 young and a seer, standing out in
      \nhis multitudes, possessed of the Truth, the upholder of those
      \nthat do the work; and also in between he is kindled.<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

    3. \n

      \n\tMen seek with their obeisances of submission this illumined
      \nStrength that achieves our perfection in the progressing
      \nsacrifices and is the priest of their oblation, because he
      \nshapes in the power of the Truth both firmaments of our
      \nbeing. Him they press into brightness by the clarity,\u00b3 the
      \neternal steed of life’s plenitude.<\/font> <\/font>\n\t<\/li>\n

    4. \n

      \n\tBright, he is rubbed bright, expressed by the seer, domiciled
      \nin his own home<\/font>4<\/font><\/sup> and our beneficent guest. The bull of the
      \nthousand horns, because thou hast that force,<\/font>5<\/font><\/sup>
      \n\tO Strength,
      \nthou precedest in thy puissance all others.<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

    5. \n

      \n\tAt once, O Strength, thou outstrippest
      \n\tall others, in whomsoever thou art manifested in all the glory of thy beauty,<\/font> the former the state of illumined Knowledge that belongs to the divine Mind of which our
      \nmentality is a pale and dulled reflection. <\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n\u00b9<\/font>To each principle of our nature there corresponds a certain divine ecstasy and on each
      \nplane, in each body or house, Agni establishes these ecstasies. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b2<\/font>The mother is Earth, our physical being; the other world is the supramental existence; the vital and emotional being is the world in between. Agni manifests in all of these simultaneously. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b3<\/font>The clarified butter, yield of the Cow of Light and symbol of the rich clarity that comes
      \nto the mind visited by the Light. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n4<\/sup>That is to say, having taken his place on the plane of the Truth which is his own proper
      \nhome. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n5<\/sup>The force of the Truth, the perfect energy that belongs to this perfect knowledge.
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

      \ndesirable, full of body, extended in light, the beloved guest
      \nof the human peoples.<\/font> <\/font> <\/p>\n

        \n
      1. \n

        \n\tTo thee, O Strength, O youngest vigour, all the worlds and
        \ntheir peoples bring from near and bring from afar their
        \noffering. Awake in a man’s knowledge to that right-minded-
        \nness of his happiest state. A vastness, O Strength, is the
        \ngreat and blissful peace of thee.<\/font> <\/font>\n\t<\/li>\n

      2. \n

        \n\tMount today with the lords of the Sacrifice,
        \n\tO luminous
        \nWill, thy luminous complete car! Thou who knowest the
        \nwide middle world<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> in all its paths, bring hither the gods to
        \neat of our oblation.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n

      3. \n

        \n\tTo the Seer, to the Intelligence we have uttered today the
        \nword of our adoration, to the Bull that fertilises the herds;<\/font>
        \n\t<\/font>the Steadfast in the Light by his surrender rises in the flame
        \nof Will as in the heavens to a golden Affirmation manifesting
        \na vastness.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        \n\u00b9The vital or nervous plane is just above our material earth; through it the gods come
        \nto commune with man, but it is a confused wideness and its paths are many but intricate and
        \ntangled. <\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n
