\nTHE THIRD HYMN TO AGNI <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/p>\n

\nTHE DIVINE FORCE, CONQUEROR OF THE SUPREME GOOD <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n[The Divine Will-Force is that of which all the other godheads
\nare forms and ‘he manifests all these powers of supreme
\nTruth as he grows in us. Thus the supreme state of conscious
\nbeing is attained and by that our complex and manifold existence
\nis maintained in the Light and the Joy. The Rishi prays that
\nthe evil may not be allowed to express itself again in him, that
\nthe secret soul in us who is the Father of things but in us appears
\nas the child of our works and our evolution, may open itself to
\nthe vast Truth-Consciousness. The Divine Flame will destroy all
\nthe powers of falsehood and evil who seek to make us stumble
\nand would rob us of our heavenly treasure.]<\/font>
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

  1. \n

    \n\tThou art he of the Wideness,<\/font>\u00b9<\/font>
    \n\tO Will, when thou art born;<\/font> <\/font>
    \n\tthou becomest the Lord of Love<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> when thou art entirely
    \nkindled. In thee are all the gods, O son of Force; thou art
    \nthe Power-in-Mind<\/font>\u00b3<\/font> for the mortal who gives the offering.<\/font>
    \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

  2. \n

    \n\tO thou who possessest self-ordering Nature, thou becomest
    \nthe might of the Aspirer<\/font>4<\/font><\/sup> when thou bearest the secret Name
    \nof the Virgins.<\/font>5<\/font><\/sup> They brighten thee with the Light in her
    \nrays as Love<\/font>6<\/font><\/sup> perfectly founded when thou makest of one
    \n\tmind the Lord and his Spouse<\/font>7<\/font><\/sup>
    \n\tin their mansion.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n

  3. \n

    \n\tFor the glory of thee, O Violent One, the Thought-Powers<\/font>
    \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\u00b9<\/font>Varuna, who represents the ethereal purity and oceanic wideness of the infinite Truth. <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\u00b2<\/font>Mitra, the all-embracing harmony of the Truth, the Friend of all beings, therefore the
    \nLord of Love. <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\u00b3Indra, Ruler of our being. Master of Swar which is the luminous world of the Divine
    \nMind. <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n4<\/sup> Aryaman, the aspiring power and action of the Truth. <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n5<\/sup> Probably, the unripe Radiances that our aspiration has to prepare for their union with
    \nthe higher power of the soul; Aryaman holds their secret sense, the Name or Numen, which
    \nis manifested when aspiration arrives at the light of knowledge and Mitra harmonises soul
    \nand nature. <\/font><\/p>\n

    \n7<\/sup>The Soul and Nature. The mansion is the human body.
    \n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \nmake to shine out by their pressure that which is thy rich
    \nand beautiful birth.<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> When that highest stride<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> of Vishnu
    \nhas been established within, thou protectest by it the secret
    \nName of the herds of the Radiance.<\/font>\u00b3 <\/font><\/p>\n

    1. \n

      \n\tBy the glory of thee because thou hast right vision,
      \n\tO god-head, the gods holding all that multiple existence taste
      \nimmortality and men take their seat in the Force that offers
      \nthe oblation and, desiring, they distribute to the godheads
      \nthe self-expression of the being.<\/font> <\/font>\n\t<\/li>\n

    2. \n

      \n\tThere is none that precedeth thee as the priest of the oblation nor any mightier for sacrifice;
      \n\tO Flame, none is supreme
      \nover thee in the things of the Wisdom, thou who possessest
      \nthe self-ordering power of Nature. The creature of whom
      \nthou becomest the guest, O godhead, prevails by sacrifice
      \nover all that belong to the mortality.<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

    3. \n

      \n\tMay we, O Flame, fostered by thee and awakened, seekers
      \nof the substance, prevail by the offering, \u2014 we in the great
      \nstruggle, we in the comings of knowledge in our days,<\/font>4<\/font><\/sup> we
      \nby the felicity, O son of Force, overcome all that are mortal.<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

    4. \n

      \n\tThe expresser of evil who seeks to bring sin and transgression
      \ninto us, his own evil do thou return upon his head; slay, O conscious knower, this hostile self-expression of him who
      \noppresses us with the duality.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n

    5. \n

      \n\tThee, O Godhead, in the dawning of this our Night the
      \nAncients<\/font>5<\/font><\/sup> made their messenger and through thee sacrificed
      \nby their offerings because thou art the godhead that is being<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n\u00b9<\/font>The supreme world of Light. Agni is said elsewhere to become in his being the highest
      \nof the shining worlds. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b2<\/font>Vishnu has three strides or movements, earth, heaven and the supreme world of which
      \nLight, Truth and the Sun are the foundation. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b3<\/font>The highest divine sense of the illuminations of Knowledge is found in the superconscient worlds of supreme Light. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n4<\/sup>The periods of Light visiting the soul. <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n5<\/sup> The ancient seers who discovered the secret wisdom.
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

      \nkindled by the mortal dwellers in this substance and thou
      \nmovest to the meeting-place<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> of all felicities.<\/font>
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. \n

        \n\tDeliver the Father and in thy knowledge put away evil from
        \nhim who is borne in us as thy son, O child of Force. When
        \nwilt thou have that vision for us, O conscious knower?
        \nwhen wilt th6u, O Truth-Conscious Will, impel us to the
        \njourney?<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n

      2. \n

        \n\tThen indeed the Father adores and holds,
        \n\tO Dweller in the
        \nsubstance, the vast Name<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> when thou makest him to accept
        \nand cleave to it. Will in us desires the bliss and, increasing,
        \nwins it entirely by the force of the Godhead.<\/font>\u00b3 <\/font>\n\t<\/li>\n

      3. \n

        \n\tThou, O Will, O youngest vigour, earnest thy adorer beyond
        \nall stumblings into grief and evil; for the creatures are seen
        \nof thee who would do hurt to us and are thieves in their
        \nhearts, \u2014 they whose perceptions are void of the knowledge
        \nand therefore they have fallen into the crookedness.<\/font>
        \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

      4. \n

        \n\tLo, all these movements of our journeying have turned their
        \nfaces towards thee, and for that evil in us, it is declared to
        \nthe Dweller in our being. O never can this Will in his in-
        \ncreasing betray us to the hurter of our self-expression; he will
        \nnot deliver us into the hands of our enemy!<\/font>
        \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        \n\u00b9<\/font>The supreme world of Truth and Bliss. <\/font><\/p>\n

        \n\u00b2<\/font>The world of Truth is also called the Wideness or the Vast or the Vast Truth. <\/font><\/p>\n

        \n\u00b3<\/font>The Deva, the supreme Deity, of whom all the gods are different Names and Powers. <\/font><\/p>\n
