\nTHE EIGHTEENTH HYMN TO AGNI <\/font>
\n<\/b> <\/p>\n

\nA HYMN OF THE LORDS OF THE PLENITUDE <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n[The Divine Will is invoked to complete the manifestation of
\nthe divine powers after the second state of the soul when it has
\npassed beyond the mere physical being and is full of the perfect
\nenergy of the vital plane, for the gods have given all the life’s fifty
\nsteeds of swiftness; Agni is there as the light and flame of its
\nfar-extended existence which has broken the limitations of the
\nmaterial being and he is full of the joys of this new and rich supra-physical life. Now the third state, the free mental being, is to be
\nperfected by a richly varied and luminous play of thought and
\nword ending in the manifestation of the highest reach of the
\nmental realms, the power of the supramental Light in the mentality; there begins the manifestation of the intuitive and inspired
\nmind. Agni has to create that vastness and light and divinity of
\nthe Truth-knowledge and so crown with it the already attained
\nfree swiftness of force and wide range of life and enjoyment
\nproper to the perfected and god-filled vitality.]<\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\tLet the Will be affirmed in the dawning,<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> guest of the creature with his many delights who, immortal in mortals, takes
    \njoy in all their offerings,<\/font> <\/li>\n

  2. \n

    \n\tHe is the plenitude of his own discerning mind for the second
    \nsoul<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> when it bears the purified intelligence; then it holds in
    \n\titself the continual wine of delight and affirms thee, O
    \nImmortal.<\/font>  <\/li>\n

  3. \n

    \n\tSuch art thou I call, the pure flame of this far-extending
    \nexistence for the lords of the plenitude whose chariot in-<\/font> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\u00b9<\/font>The dawning of the divine Dawn of the higher knowledge in the mind. <\/font>
    \n\u00b2<\/font>Dwita, the god or Rishi of the second plane of the human ascent. It is that of the Life-
    \nForce, the plane of fulfilled force, desire, free range of the vital powers which are no longer
    \nlimited by the strict limitations of this mould of Matter. We become conscious
    \nof and conscious in new realms, immense ranges of life, the ”far-extending existence" of the next verse, .
    \nwhich are screened off from our ordinary physical consciousness. Trita is the god or Rishi
    \nof the third plane, full of luminous mental kingdoms unknown to the physical mind.<\/font><\/p>\n

    \nviolate ranges wide<\/font>\u00b9<\/font>
    \nO giver of the steeds of swiftness, \u2014<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\tThe lords of the plenitude in whom is rich light of the
      \nthought and they keep the words of our utterance in their
      \nmouth;<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> the fullness of the soul has been spread as a seat
      \nof sacrifice in the power<\/font>\u00b3<\/font> of the luminous world and all its
      \ninspirations are set round about.<\/font> <\/li>\n

    2. \n

      \n\tThey who have given me fifty steeds of swiftness<\/font>4<\/font><\/sup> with a
      \nperfect affirming, the divine souls that are lords of the plenitude, for them, O Flame-Immortal, create the large, the vast,
      \nthe luminous knowledge full of the godheads.<\/font> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n\u00b9<\/font>In
      \nthese new worlds of life the divine movement is now fulfilled there and ranges
      \nunpierced by the "harms" of the powers of Death and Darkness.<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b2<\/font>This verse describes the farther ascent of the movement from the realms Of Dwita to the
      \nrealms of Trita.<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b3<\/font>Svaryara,<\/i> often spoken of as if it were a country; it is not Swar
      \nitself, the utter superconscient plane, but the power of itself which the light of that world forms in the pure mentality. Here its inspirations and illuminations descend and take their place round the seat of the
      \nsacrifice. These are elsewhere called the scouts, \u00e9claireurs,<\/i> of the solar Deity, Varuna.<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n4<\/sup> The Ashwa or Horse is the symbol of the Life-Force as the Cow is the symbol of the
      \nLight. Fifty, hundred, a thousand are numbers symbolic of completeness.<\/font><\/p>\n
