He leads men in their labour to his own<br \/>\ninfinite levels; he enjoys and tears up the objects of earthly enjoyment, but all his multitude of desires are for the building of<br \/>\nan universality, an all-embracing enjoyment in the divine home<br \/>\nof the human being. He is the animal moving as the enjoyer by<br \/>\nthe progressive movement of Nature, as with an axe through the<br \/>\nforest, to the achievement and the bliss. This passionate, emotional, animal being of man is given by him to be purified into<br \/>\nthe peace and bliss; in it he establishes a divine light and know-ledge and the awakened state of the soul.]<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">O comrades, in you an absolute force of impulsion and an<br \/>\nutter affirming for the Strength that lavishes all his abundance on the worlds of our dwelling,<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b9<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> for the master of<br \/>\nForce, for the son of Energy.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Wheresoever man&#8217;s soul comes to the utter meeting with<br \/>\nhim, it becomes full of delight in its dwelling-place. Even they who are adepts in the strength continue to kindle the<br \/>\nflame of him and all creatures born work to bring him to<br \/>\nperfect birth.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">When wholly we possess and enjoy our strengths of impulsion, wholly all that men offer as a sacrifice, then I<br \/>\n\treceive the ray of the Truth in its illumination and shining energy.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b2<\/font><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Verily he creates the light of perception even for one who<br \/>\nsits far off in the night, when himself undecaying the purifier <\/font><br \/>\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b9<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Or, &quot;on the dwellers in the world&quot;.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b2<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Or, &quot;of the light, the luminous force, the truth&quot;.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font size=\"2\">Page <\/font><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\" face=\"Times New Roman\">\u2013 381<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">compresses the lords<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b9<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> of the woodland of delight.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">When in his circling men cast the sweat<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b2<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> of their toil as an<br \/>\noffering on the paths, then they ascend to him where he sitsself-joyous<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b3<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><br \/>\n\tlike climbers who arrive upon large levels.<\/font><sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">4<br \/>\n\t<\/font><\/sup><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">&nbsp;Him shall mortal man come to know as the godhead who<br \/>\nhas this multitude of his desires that he may establish in us the all; for he reaches forward to the sweet taste of all<br \/>\nfoods and he builds a home<\/font><sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">5<\/font><\/sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> for this human being.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Yea, he teareth to pieces this desert<\/font><sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">6<\/font><\/sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> in which we dwell as<br \/>\nthe Animal that teareth its food; the beard of this Beast is of the golden light, his fang is a purity and the force in him<br \/>\nis not afflicted by his heats.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Pure indeed is he for whom as for the eater of things there<br \/>\nis the flowing progression by Nature<\/font><sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">7<\/font><\/sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> as by an axe, and with<br \/>\na happy travail she, his Mother, brought him forth that he<br \/>\nmay accomplish her works and taste of the enjoyment.<\/font><sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">8<\/font><\/sup><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b9<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><i>Vanaspatin,<\/i> in its double sense, the trees, the lords of the forest, growths of the earth,<br \/>\nour material existence, and lords of delight. Soma, producer of the immortalising wine, is the<br \/>\ntypical <i>vanaspati.<\/i><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b2<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">An equivoque on the double sense of the word, sweat and the rich droppings of the<br \/>\nfood-offering.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b3<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Or, &quot;self-victorious&quot;.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><sup>4<\/sup> These are the wide free infinite planes of existence founded on the Truth, the open<br \/>\nlevels opposed elsewhere to the uneven crookednesses which shut in men limiting their vision and<br \/>\nobstructing their journey.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><sup>5<\/sup> The home of man, the higher divine world of his existence which is being formed by<br \/>\nthe gods in his being through the sacrifice. This home is the complete Beatitude into which all human desires and enjoyings have to be transformed and lose themselves. Therefore Agni,<br \/>\nthe purifier, devours all the forms of material existence and enjoyment in order to reduce<br \/>\nthem to their divine equivalent.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><sup>6<\/sup> The material existence not watered by the streams or rivers which descend from the<br \/>\nsuperconscient Bliss and Truth.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><sup>7<\/sup>Again an equivoque on the double sense of <i>svadhiti,<\/i> an axe or other cleaving<br \/>\ninstrument and the self-ordering power of Nature, <i>svadh&#257;..<\/i> The image is of the progress of the divine<br \/>\nForce through the forests of the material existence as with an axe. But the axe is the natural self-arranging progression of Nature, the World-Energy, the Mother from whom this divine<br \/>\nForce, son of Energy, is born.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><sup>8<\/sup> The divine enjoyment, <i>bhaga,<\/i> typified by the god Bhaga, the Enjoyer in the power of<br \/>\nthe Truth.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font size=\"2\">Page <\/font><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\" face=\"Times New Roman\">\u2013 382<\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">O strength, O presser out on us of the<br \/>\n\trunning richness, when thou findest one who is a glad peace<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b9<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><br \/>\n\tfor the establishing of thy works, in such mortals illumination establish<br \/>\n\tand inspired knowledge and the conscious soul.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">For to this end I born in the material<br \/>\n\texistence receive as thy gift the emotional mind and the animal being.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b2<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> Yea,<br \/>\n\tO Will, may the eater of things overpower the Dividers<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b3 <\/font><br \/>\n\t<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">who minister not to his fullness; these<br \/>\n\tsouls that rush upon him with their impulsions may he overcome.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b9<\/font><i><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">am<\/font><\/i><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"> and <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\"><i>&#346;<\/i><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><i>arma<\/i><br \/>\nin the Veda express the idea of peace and joy, the joy that comes of the accomplished labour, <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\"><i>&#347;<\/i><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><i>ami,<\/i> or work of the sacrifice: the toil of the battle and the journey<br \/>\nfind their rest, a foundation of beatitude is acquired which is already free from the pain of<br \/>\nstrife and effort.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b2<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Literally, passion-mind and the animal; but the word <i>pa&#347;u<\/i> may also mean, as it does<br \/>\noftenest in the Veda, the symbolic Cow of light; in that case the sense will be the emotional<br \/>\nmind and the illumined mind. But the first rendering agrees better with the<br \/>\ngeneral sense of the hymn and with its previous use of the word.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 30pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00b3<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">The Dasyus who hack and cut up the growth and unity of the soul and seek to assail<br \/>\nand destroy its divine strength, joy and knowledge.
