\nTHE TWIN UPHOLDERS AND PROTECTORS<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n[Mitra and Varuna perfect the vastness of the superconscient
\nbeing which is the object of sacrifice; they possess the full
\nabundance of its force. When they reach that luminous origin
\nand home, they give men, labourers in the sacrificial work, its
\npeace and bliss; on the way to it they protect the mortal from his
\nspiritual enemies who would stand in the way of his immortality;<\/font>
\n<\/font>for they keep firm to their higher workings and to the seats of the
\nhigher consciousness to which those workings belong and to
\nwhich man rises in his ascent; universal and all-knowing they
\ndestroy these enemies who are the forces of egoism and limiting
\nignorance. True in their being, they are the powers that possess
\nand touch the Truth in each individual being; leaders of the
\njourney and the battle they create the wideness of that higher
\nconsciousness even out of our narrow and distressed mortality.
\nIt is that highest which the thought in the Atris desires and
\nreaches to by affirming Mitra, Varuna and Aryaman, the god-heads, in the "bodies" inhabited by the human soul.]<\/font>

    \n\tIn truth, O godheads, ye two sons of the infinite Mother,
    \nrightly perfected by you is the Vastness for which we sacrifice. O Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, you possess its most abundant force.<\/font>

      \n\tWhen you enter into your original home
      \n\tof golden light, O
      \nVaruna, O Mitra, upholders of men in their labour, destroyers <\/font>

      \nof the enemy, reach for them the bliss.<\/font>

        \n\tUniversal and all-knowing are Varuna and Mitra and
        \nAryaman; they keep firm to the law of their workings, even
        \nas to the seats to which they arrive, and guard mortal man
        \nfrom his foes.<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          \n\tFor because they are true in their being, they touch the Truth
          \nand hold the Truth in creature and creature; perfect leaders
          \nin the journey, perfect in force for the battle, they create
          \nthe wideness even out of this narrow being.<\/font>

            \n\tWhich of you, O Mitra, is unaffirmed, thou or Varuna, in
            \nour bodies?<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> Wholly our thought seeks That from you,
            \nThat for the Enjoyers<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> our Thought desires.<\/font>
            \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            \n\u00b9<\/font>Not the physical body only; the soul dwells here in five sheaths or embodyings. <\/font><\/p>\n
