\n\t\tTHE TWENTY-SEVENTH HYMN TO AGNI <\/b><\/font> <\/p>\n

\nA HYMN OF THE STRENGTH AND ILLUMINATION<\/b><\/font>
\n<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nThe Rishi under the figure of the demigod, Traivrishna Tryaruna Trasadasyu, and the seer Ashwamedha, symbolises the
\nfulfilment in the human mentality of the illumination of the
\nGod-Mind Indra, and the power of the God-Will, Agni in the
\nvitality. The Mind-Soul, destroyer of the demons, awakened to
\nknowledge as the human-born Indra, has given to the seer his
\ntwo cows of light that draw his wain, his two shining horses that
\ndraw his chariot and the ten times twelve cows of the dawn of
\nknowledge. He has assented to and confirmed the desire with
\nwhich the Life-Soul has given the sacrifice of the Life-Horse to
\nthe gods. The Rishi prays that this Mind-Soul, lord of the triple
\ndawn, may give to the journeying Life that seeks the truth, the
\nmental intelligence and power of possession needed and may
\nitself in return receive from Agni the peace and bliss. The Life-
\nSoul on the other hand has given the hundred powers, the vital
\nstrength needed for the upward journey; the Rishi prays that
\nthis Life-Soul may attain to that vast strength which is the power
\nof the Sun of Truth on the superconscient plane.]<\/font>
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\tO   Will, O   Universal Power,<\/font>\u00b9<\/font>the mighty One supreme in
    \nvision, master of his being, lord of his plenitudes has given
    \nme his two cows of the Light that draw his wain. He of the
    \n. triple dawn, son of the triple Bull,<\/font>\u00b2<\/font>  has awakened to know-
    \nledge with the ten thousands<\/font>\u00b3 <\/font>
    \n\tof his plenitude.<\/font>
    \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

  2. \n

    \n\tHe gives to me the hundred and twenty<\/font>4<\/font><\/sup> of the cows
    \n\t<\/b>of<\/font> <\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\u00b9<\/font>Or, "Godhead".<\/font>
    \n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\u00b2<\/font> <\/font>
    \n The Triple Bull is Indra, lord of the three luminous realms of Swar, the Divine Mind;<\/font>
    \n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \nTryaruna Trasadasyu is the half-god, man turned into the Indra type; therefore he is described
    \nby all the usual epithets of Indra, "Asura", "Satpati", "Maghavan". The triple dawn is the
    \ndawn of these three realms on the human mentality.<\/font>
    \n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \n\u00b3<\/font>Thousand symbolises absolute completeness, but there are ten subtle powers of the
    \nillumined mind each of which has to have its entire plenitude.<\/font>
    \n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \n4<\/sup> The symbolic figure of the illuminations of divine knowledge as the series of dawns
    \n(cows) of the twelve months of the year and twelve periods of the sacrifice. There are again<\/font>
    \n<\/font>
    \nten times twelve to correspond to the ten subtle sisters, powers of the illumined mentality.<\/font>
    \n<\/font><\/p>\n

    \ndawn; his two shining<\/font>\u00b9<\/font> horses he gives, yoked to the car,
    \nthat bear aright the yoke. O   Will, O   Universal Power, do
    \nthou rightly affirmed and increasing extend peace and bliss
    \nto the lord of the triple dawn.<\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\tFor thus has he done desiring thy grace of mind, new-given
      \nfor him new-manifested, \u2014 he, the disperser of the des-
      \ntroyers,<\/font>\u00b2<\/font> the lord of the triple dawn who with attentive mind
      \ngives response to the many words of my many births.<\/font>\u00b3 <\/font>\n\t<\/li>\n

    2. \n

      \n\tMay he who answers to me with assent give to the illumined
      \ngiver of the Horse-sacrifice,<\/font>4<\/font><\/sup> by the word of illumination
      \npossession of the goal of his journey; may he give power of
      \nintelligence to the seeker of the Truth.<\/font>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n

    3. \n

      \n\tA hundred strong bulls of the diffusion<\/font>5<\/font><\/sup>
      \n\traise me up to joy;<\/font> <\/font>
      \n\tthe gifts of the sacrificer of the steed are as outpourings of
      \n\tthe wine of delight with their triple infusions.<\/font>6<\/font><\/sup>
      \n\t<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n\u00b9<\/font>The two shining horses of Indra identical probably with the two cows of light of the
      \nfirst verse; they are the two vision-powers of the supramental Truth-Consciousness, right-
      \nhand and left-hand, probably direct truth-discernment and intuition. As cows symbolising
      \nlight of knowledge they yoke themselves to the material mind, the wain; as horses symbolising
      \npower of knowledge to the chariot of Indra, the liberated pure mind.<\/font>
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b2<\/font>Trasadasyu; in all things he reproduces the-characteristics of Indra.<\/font>
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n\u00b3<\/font>The seer by this self-fulfilment on the higher plane is born, as it were, into many realms
      \nof consciousness and from each of these there go up its words that express the impulses in it
      \nwhich seek a divine fulfilment. The Mind-Soul answers to these and gives assent, it supplies to
      \nthe word of expression the answering word of illumination and to the Life that seeks the Truth
      \nit gives the power of intelligence that finds and holds the Truth.<\/font>
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n4<\/sup> The Horse-sacrifice is the
      \noffering of the Life-power with all its impulses, desires, enjoyments to the divine existence. The Life-Soul (Dwita) is itself the giver of the sacrifice which it
      \nperforms when by the power of Agni it attains to vision on its own vital plane, when it becomes,
      \nin the figure of the hymn, the illumined seer Ashwamedha.<\/font>
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

      \n5<\/sup> The complete hundred powers of the Life by whom all the abundance of the vital plane
      \nis showered upon the growing man. The vital forces being the instrument of
      \ndesire and enjoyment, this diffusion is like the outpouring of the wine of delight that raises the soul to new and
      \nintoxicating joys.<\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

      \n6<\/sup> The delight extracted from existence is
      \ntypified by the honey-wine of the Soma; it is
      \nmixed with the milk, the curds and the grain, the milk being that of the luminous cows, the
      \ncurds the fixation of their yield in the intellectual mind and the grain the formulation of the
      \nlight in the force of the physical mind. These symbolic senses are indicated by the double
      \nmeaning of the words used, go, dadhi<\/i> and yava.<\/i><\/font>
      \n<\/font><\/p>\n

        \n\t May the God-Mind and the God-Will uphold in the sacrificer of the Horse and giver of his hundred a perfect energy
        \nand a vast force of battle even as in heaven the Sun of Light
        \nindestructible.\u00b9<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        \n\u00b9<\/font>Perfect and vast energy in the vital being corresponding to the infinite and immortal
        \nlight of the Truth in the mental being.<\/font>
